Review of our Wets Do It Again Tour

We “Never Ever in our wildest dreams” thought this was going to happen, Wet Wet Wet back together and we were very happy when it was finally time to pack our suitcases and leave for Sheffield, Manchester and both Glasgow dates.

There were only two of us Dutchies going to Sheffield, being Monique and me, but Moos and Erna would come and join us to do the rest of the gigs.

Of course Sheffield was very special  being our.... first gig.... front row...seeing Wet Wet Wet back were they belong....on Graeme Duffin’s side (well I hoped it was because at the secret gig HE stood on the WRONG side for me....TYPICAL :-)....and for Monique because it was the first time she should see all Wet’s on stage and I knew it would blow her away :-)

Neil and MoosTippi was the support in Sheffield and first Glasgow gig and I can imagine it being very scary for her but she did a great job.

Dean Johnson was support in Manchester (think he snatched Marti’s suit for that one :-) and he was brilliant and it was nice to hear him live because I have his CD so I knew him already.

Second Glasgow support were the Cosmic Rough Riders....sorry guys but we only heard the last part of your session because we were a bit late but you sounded great and we heard from other fans that they liked you.

Then the intro music started.....curtain went down and there they were :-)....everyone was shouting their heads off and it was so brilliant to see ALL the guys on stage again where they belong.

They started with SLM and had everyone singing and dancing right from the start, after that the new single All I Want, great song. Graeme Duffin was standing just a few meters from me, I looked at him, he looked back and smiled at me. Next one was WIWL and after that Temptation (Monique’s favorite old song as I hope you know because she named her web-site after it :-), then Angel Eyes and Sweet Surrender (was great to hear that song live again), Hold Back The River (Marti was commenting about wishing he listened to those lyrics more carefully those days).

Graeme and Erna

When they started This Time I was thrilled as this song is one of my all time Wets favorites, as you can imagine I love the guitar solo in this (well if there is a guitar solo in a Wets song those are all my favorites to be honest :-) so can you imagine the look on my face when there was NO guitar solo but a “flute”doing that bit. I was just stunned and Monique looked at me laughing her head off seeing the strange expression on my face :-) :-)  Listening to this “flute” solo a few times on the CD it does sound okay now.

DWTFMN was next, than Marti’s favorite song Julia Says. After this great song came a new one Walking On Water and I have to admit the first time I heard this I wasn’t that keen on it but now I have heard Marti sing this live its become my favorite NEW Wets song. His voice is so warm and makes you feel so relaxed and the lyrics and music are just superb.....close your eyes and let it take you away. WALHFMF their first number one, great song and the lyrics are very appropriate, not only to The Wets but for all friends around the world. Another thing is....have you ever looked closely at GD’s fingers when playing that solo bit.....it amazes me every time seeing how fast his fingers move on his guitar, brilliant :-)

Acoustic set next, Gypsy Girl (don’t think the guys thought our ..la la la la ....bit went too great with this song :-).  I Don’t Want To Fight (another great new song) and last but definitely not least the “country”one Learn From Each Mistake, something completely different but I do like it.

Another one of my favorite songs next (and my favorite album) High On The Happy Side. Shame they had to take this song out of the set list after Sheffield and they did the same with This Time. We were wondering why and in Glasgow I got the chance to ask GD about it and he said the Set List was too long because they had a curfew at 11 pm. I guess with all the talking and funny things that happened on stage they just didn’t have enough time for everything. As much as I love these songs I wouldn’t have wanted to miss all the talking and jokes the guys made on stage......they were so hilarious :-)

Tom and MoniqueSomewere Somehow, hearing this again takes me back to the Ray Cooks MTV live session because thats were GD had his Double Moon Electric for the first time and he said....its like flying a helicopter and I just got it..... HELPPPP :-) East Of The River and Lipservice, love them both so much and they get you dancing away every time..... you just HAVE to move.

Goodnight Girl, great song especially live were all the guys do their solo thing. First Graeme Duffin with..... Can’t Buy Me Love and Every TimeYou Go Away..... great voice and I always enjoy hearing him sing. Graeme Clark with.....Every Step You Take.....love the way he sings this and when Marti joins him just brilliant those two voices together. Neil with....Don’t Get Me Wrong......this song suits Neil, last time I heard him sing solo was in 1995 and he’s much better now, although he told me he still doesn’t like it much himself. Tommy with ....Last Christmas and Help....it's quite funny how he gets the fans to sing for him although he’s got a great voice himself. And the last bit for Marti....By The Look In Your Eyes....Tommy’s old song :-) what can I say, its just so wonderful to listen to Marti, his voice is more powerfull than ever and he knows so well how to work the crowd with his comments, his smile and his body language :-)

ICGYE....and yes “They” can give us everything.... love this song live especially the way it starts with Graeme doing that thing with his foot so you get that funky sound  (sorry don’t know how to express it any other way, if you do... answers on my email address :-).  And of course when Marti says......play that NASTY GUITAR....ohhhh how I have missed that :-)

Then the last song of the night, first you see the letters LOVE on the big screen and then.....LOVE IS ALL AROUND....a great finish to a brilliant gig.

YEAH... LOVE IS ALL AROUND FOR WET WET WET.......they are definitely back and we love them to bits. Thanks so much guys for getting back together and you were....ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS .... can’t wait until next time so that says it all :-)

MartiWe also want to thank Tommy, Graeme Clark, Neil and Graeme Duffin for taking the time to come down to talk, let us take pictures and sign things at the Glasgow soundcheck. It was amazing to finally meet Tommy, Graeme Clark and Neil for the first time, you guys are the best. Sorry to hear you had go to the dentist that day Marti (must have been awful for you) but thanks for sitting on your hands and knees to chat to us before you went :-)

And then Graeme Duffin :-) I think you know that you made those days incredible special for me and I will be forever grateful to you and your family, don’t know what else to say but .....THANKS SO MUCH....

The “BRASS”section, great to have you back guys, it wouldn’t have been the same without you, great job and hope to see you again next tour.

Dougie Souness, heard we are going to set up a “Silver Fox fanclub” in your honor :-) You’re not only a great friend and manager of The Wets but finally someone who does care about what fans think and want......THANKS you are so kind.

Graeme and WilFinal thank you to all the fans we met again, old friends and new ones, it was so good to see everyone. Special thanks to Denise and Lorraine who invited us Dutchies to stay in their house so we didn’t need to stay in a hotel in Glasgow, you girls are so kind and you added so much fun to our stay.

I think that’s it and I hope you have enjoyed reading this review, thanks for visiting my web-site and I hope to see you all again next time :-)

Goodbye and Take Care,

Monique van Spellen, Erna van Andel, Monique Van Arkel (Moos) and Willemina Snijders

Listen to three comedians about a HAT ;-)

This is only the middle bit of this hilarious conversation that these 3 comedians have about a HAT,
the total thing lasts 4 minuts so you really need to get this CD if you want
to hear everything,
actually this whole CD has beyond the fabulous music so many funny comments on it.
